Sudbury Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Muay Thai Academy Kids and Little Ninjas Programs Introduction
About the program
Our Kids and Little Ninjas program is based on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but also has elements of Karate, Wrestling, Muay Thai, and Judo mixed in. The program is not just another activity for your kids to ‘try out’. It’s a comprehensive system which will help your children develop self-defense skills as well as life and leadership skills. Many parents report an increase in performance at school, as well as improvements at home and in overall attitude.
Class Structure
Our Kids and Little Ninjas classes typically consist of a warm-up, followed by some games and drills designed to build skills specific to martial arts like balance, co-ordination, strength, and confidence. We believe that above all, children need to have lots of fun and in our classes they have as much fun learning as we have teaching them. We also work on martial arts techniques which help the children gain confidence and discipline, and also help them learn how not to be bullied.
‘Powerful Words’ Character Development
Our character development program will provide your children with a deeper understanding of social etiquette and concepts that will help them in all aspects of their life continuing right into adulthood. Our capable instructors will discuss our ‘Word of the Month’ including respect, honesty, and integrity in our daily ‘Power Chats’. These power chats are developed and written in age specific language for us by a leading PhD in child development, Dr. Robyn Silverman. Our experienced instructors are committed to providing your child with the necessary tools to succeed on the mat, in school, and most importantly, in life!
Green Belt - The Black Belt of Children's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Belt progression in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is truly a life-long journey. The adult black belt is attained typically between 8 and 12 years of CONSISTENT training. We use the term adult because no one under 18 is permitted to obtain a black belt. That being said, we have a different ranking system in place for children. The highest rank is a green belt and can be earned with 3 ½ -4 years of consistent training. While being a green belt in other systems is an admirable achievement, becoming a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu green belt speaks volumes and is an achievement most adults would envy. The children have the opportunity to earn 10 different belts on the way to a green belt with stripes being awarded roughly once per month based on attendance and knowledge of the curriculum. This gives the children a sense of accomplishment and constant rewards which they love. There is NO extra cost for belt promotions.

Testimonials
"My two sons have grown so much in the last year under the teachings of Steve Joncas, head instructor at Sudbury Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai Academy. I've been so impressed with the whole organization of the school. They care about the development of our kids as a complete unit - mentally, physically and emotionally. The positive aspects of this program are numerous! I've noticed increased self-confidence, social awareness and respect toward others. I love the mat chats and the lessons learnt are beneficial. I simply have to remind them what the "word of the month" is and they instantly correct their own disruptive behaviour. That sort of self-discipline is the foundation to being a compassionate, strong and well-rounded individual capable of succeeding in our society. Thank you to all those who've had a hand in "molding" my sons: Steve, Jenn, Mike, Tom, Jessie and Guy."
