Muay Thai is a style of kickboxing and the national sport of Thailand. The basic offensive techniques in Muay Thai use hands, elbows, kicks and knees to punch and kick the opponent. To hinder an opponent for both offensive and defensive purposes, small amounts of stand-up grappling are used: the clinch. Defensively, the shoulders, arms and legs are used to thwart the attacker from successfully executing his techniques. Almost all techniques in Muay Thai use the entire body movement, rotating the hip with each kick, punch and block.
Muay Thai training has a strong focus on fitness and cardiovascular conditioning, as we believe that fitness is of great importance for both competition and self-defense.

"After moving from Timmins to Sudbury, with a few months of boxing experience I was looking to get into something new. Something more challenging. I started looking around for MMA clubs in Sudbury and found Sudbury BJJ and Muay Thai Acadamy through Facebook. When I first met with Jenn and Steve they were really welcoming which got me to join the club right on the spot. And I don’t regret it! My first day of training, I almost died, but I loved it. It is a crazy work out compared to anything I’ve ever done before. All those hours of intense work-outs have allowed me to finally reach my goals. I've competed in 1 amateur fight to date in NYC, I’m helping with the teaching and my weight is down by 40 lbs. I’m still working towards losing my last 20lbs, but with the help of my teammates this will be no problem. Mike, Jenn and Steve gave me advice in different areas of fitness, from my training to nutrition. If fitness, and weight loss are your goals, they can be met here. My future goals are to compete at a professional level in both Muay Thai and MMA starting as soon as I turn 18."
According to Jesse's mother, "When Jesse moved here, he was really lonely and grumpy. He left all of his friends in Timmins, so he didn’t have the social outlet he once had. He developed a bad attitude and really rejected the move. Since he started training at the club he’s done a complete 180 becoming more mature and satisfied with what he has here in Sudbury. He’s also become more responsible and goal oriented."
