Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)

Grappling Gi (uniform) - Renzo Gracie Ottawa Team crest is required.

This grappling class is meant for all levels, beginners to advanced. Students can expect a moderate warm-up followed by live positional training to build and practice specific grappling skills or positions. Techniques will be taught at a range of levels. The pace is moderate to fast. Sparring is also included in most BJJ classes.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Randori (sparring)

Grappling Gi (uniform) - Renzo Gracie Ottawa Team crest is required.

These sparring sessions are meant for all BJJ students with over one month of training (students with less than a month of training will require permission from the head instructor). We encourage both competitive and non-competitive students to participate in Randori sessions. Sparring in BJJ consists of live training with a resisting opponent. You are trying to better your positional dominance and looking to finish with a submission where your opponent is trying to thwart your efforts and control you. Randori is a great workout and the best way to increase your technique, proficiency, and timing in BJJ. The pace is moderate to fast. Randori is a very rewarding practice for the beginner and seasoned veteran alike.

Flexibility Training

Use of yoga mats are encouraged by not mandatory.

Our flexibility training allows our students to develop both physical and mental strength through a variety of postures and breathing exercises. Our stretches and poses will encourage the relaxation, strength and flow needed for any BJJ and Muay Thai practitioner. With each posture, transition and movement you will be pushing yourself to your personal limit with a calm and clear attitude.

No-gi grappling is the same as BJJ but without the gi. Classes are structured the same way with a moderate warm-up, positional drills, and technique. Sparring also takes place in these classes.

All levels are welcome to participate. The pace is moderate to fast. Students can expect to learn wrestling and grappling trechniques which translate well to submission grappling, self-defense and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition. Some of our competitors may be preparing for MMA competitions and these training sessions may include drills and techniques for that area.
